Yang 杨 + Shaw 肖Yang + Shaw: Tales from the Studio explores the ways in which artists Xiaohui Yang from Shandong, China and Elizabeth Shaw from Brisbane Australia convey narratives about their respective societies and cultures through jewellery and small objects.
Yang + Shaw / 杨 +肖 | Tales from the Studio Xiaohui Yang and Elizabeth Shaw make jewellery and objects that explore ideas about society and culture. Yang is inspired by the clash between traditional Chinese and Western customs, whereas Shaw’s work investigates symbolism and functionality of objects by reimagining broken and discarded items. This exhibition reveals the connections and distinctions between their practices. Yang 杨 + Shaw 肖 would like to thank Conor Graham from Liveworm for the graphic design, Elizabeth's photographer Michelle Bowden, and Xiaohui's photographers Lisa Brown and Wang Bing, Lisa Bryan-Brown for the Text, Shu Chang and Xiaohui Yang for the translation, Evie Franzidis for the editing and to Artisan and Griffith Centre for Creative Arts Research for their support.
